Deity and Foundation History

Deities Enshrined
Fujimoto Shrine enshrines Naito Nobunari, the younger brother of Tokugawa Ieyasu and the ancestor of the Murakami domain’s Naito clan. He was a brave warrior in the Sengoku period and later served as a senior retainer of the Tokugawa shogunate.

Foundation and History
The shrine was first established in the residence of the Naito family in Edo in the 17th century to honor Nobunari. It was formally named “Fujimoto Shrine” in 1720. In 1849, a branch spirit was transferred to Murakami Castle, where the current shrine building was constructed.

Faith Today
As generations of the Naito family prayed here for prosperity and protection, Fujimoto Shrine is now widely revered as a guardian deity, especially for safe childbirth and child-rearing. It is also believed to bring good fortune and victory, as the shrine was placed to guard the “kimon” (unlucky direction) of Murakami Castle.
